Combine your experience of China's must-see sites, such as the Great Wall and the Army of Terracotta Warriors, with culturally-rich Sichuan Province and the wild beauty of the Tibetan Plateau, the location of the Three Gorges and the Yangtze River. Lhasa will entrance you with its elevated hieghts of 11,975 feet and its mysterious and spiritual past. You will leave a different person after meandering through the backstreets of the Tibetan Old Quarter in the company of devout pilgrims, monks and merchants.

Trip grading: ADVENTUROUS Suitable for travellers with above-average levels of fitness and mobility. Prepare for some long road journeys, one overnight train, plenty of walking and climbing of stairs, and coping with the effects of high altitude in Tibet (over 4,000 metres above sea level).
