Isolated temple ruins, in an encroaching jungle setting, inaccessible until 2002. A visit here is a remarkable experience. Boeng Mealea is a little-explored and jungle-enveloped temple three hours from the famous Angkor Wat. Yet despite its low profile, for many people a visit to Boeng Meala rates with the sunrise experience at Angkor or dusk viewing at the atmospheric Bayon. Boeng Mealea stands almost forgotten in jungle and getting to the site is quite an adventure in itself.
