Dali - Cacun dock Dali - Three Pagodas Dali - Xizhou market

One of southwest China’s most ancient towns, old Dali retains an atmosphere of history and a very relaxed pace. Set between the shores of Erhai Lake with its many tiny fishing villages, and the dramatic slopes of the Cangshan Mountains, the Dali area is home to a number of China’s ethnic minorities.

Its market streets are a fascinating blend of old and new, featuring popular local handicrafts such as batik prints and carved marble, with many cafes which offer the perfect venue for watching the world go by. Dali’s most famous site is the Three Pagodas, their graceful towers dating back over 1000 years, but for many of our travelers Dali’s real attractions lie in exploring the old streets, outlying village markets and farmlands - by bicycle, foot, horse cart, or more conventional means of transport.
