China cities - Lijiang

Possibly China’s most enchanting town. Nestled below the peaks of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, Lijiang’s old town is a refreshing contrast to the big cities of China.

Narrow cobbled paths, canals rushing beneath old stone bridges, traditional stone and timber houses, cosy tea shops.... these are all part of Lijiang’s charm.The old town is still dominated by the matriarchal Naxi people, whose bright blue clothing colors the streetscapes and markets as they have for centuries.

Visit nearby Baisha village and the beautiful monastery of Yufeng, and take the winding mountain roads to spectacular Tiger Leaping Gorge, where the Yangtze River carves out the world’s deepest gorge.
