Personal thank you to Travel Indochina

Dear Travel Indochina,

First, I would like to say how happy I am to know that Travel Indochina is sponsoring half of my annual salary again in 2012. We are pleased that your company continues to be such a good friend to Angkor Hospital for Children (AHC)!

Since I was hired as a nurse at AHC, I have learned so much and gained many experiences in pediatric medicine as well as an understanding about the needs of the poor people in Cambodia.

After being a nurse for years, I was given the position of Family Education Coordinator, working under the Nutrition Program. My main daily duty is identifying mothers among our outpatient families who have little understanding of healthy care of their babies – care such as the value of breast feeding, nutrition, self-hygiene, and family planning. I also work and communicate with the team of Social Workers, Home Care, nurses, doctors, and the Supportive Staff in order to improve the standard of care and treatment at AHC.

Since this project was established, we have had much success. Many more mothers understand the advantages of breast milk and healthy food. However, we have a long way to go – we still see cases where the mothers are given nutritional training and yet the children come back to AHC with the same problem of malnutrition.

I like this job very much because I can see the impact of my work on the community and my country. I have a better understanding of the extent of poverty within the Cambodian communities and how I can help improve daily lives. This job requires commitment, compassion, and hard work to meet and follow-up with many women and I gladly accept this challenge.

I feel extremely lucky to be working at AHC and happy to be a part of developing children’s health within my country. I am also happy to be part of the hospital staff working as a team to improve the standard of treatment and care for AHC and for the Cambodian healthcare system.

Again, I send my thanks to Travel Indochina for its wonderful support to AHC. Without the support of people like you, AHC is unable to operate such vital services to hundreds of sick children every day. I wish the staff and management of Travel Indochina great success and good fortune in business and life.

Dear Travel Indochina,

I am delighted that Travel Indochina wish to continue to sponsor me in my work at Angkor Hospital for Children. I love my job like I love family and my daughter. Now she’s about 2 years old and she’s very active.

In my last report in 2010, I was still a nurse in the In-Patient ward and then I was sent to attend a training course about Nutrition and Breast Feeding Counseling in order to improve the nutrition program in AHC. Since then, I have been promoted to be a Patient’s Family Education Nurse. In this new position, I am responsible for providing education about nutrition and breast feeding counseling to patient’s families.

It is not very easy to change the patients’ families’ habits and attitudes, but I believe that through this program we are making changes step by step. I still work in the wards taking care of the patients when other nurses are on leave. However, I do like my new role because I’m gaining more knowledge and experience about people’s behaviors.

Once again, I would like to say a special thank to you, Travel Indochina, for giving so much to support me, as well as AHC.

I am looking forward to seeing you and your clients when they visit AHC.

Dear Travel Indochina,

I am delighted that travel Indochina wish to continue to sponsor me in my work for the Angkor Hospital for Children. I love my job like I love family and my daughter. My daughter is just one year old and she is very smart.

After having a child, I feel that my work in the hospital is more important than ever, especially when I see children the same age as my daughter.

Since December 2009, I have changed from the In-Patient nurse to the Patient’s family Education nurse and I have trained in Management of Severe Malnutrition. Currently I have been busy with this new task and responsibility. AHC started this program in 2007 to follow up on patients with severe malnutrition that have been discharged home. Some of them receive home care service from AHC, but some do not. Most of the patients in the Severe Malnutrition program are from Siem Reap province.

It is very interesting to be in this position because I work closely with mothers whose children are very malnourished. I educate them about the importance of breastfeeding, special foods, and hygiene. Moreover, I now understand more about people’s behaviors and their belief in regard to nutrition and health. It is not very easy to change their mind and their routine activities. However, I believe that through this program, we are able to make changes step by step and I do hope one day, our people will see the difference.
