DAYS 1-2: CHIANG RAI & PAKBENG
On arrival in Chiang Rai, transfer to your hotel where your adventure begins in the heart of the mystical Golden Triangle region. Here, meet your group of like-minded travelers and tour leader for welcome drinks and a briefing. An early run to the border the next morning precedes a journey by slow boat down the tranquil Mekong in the ‘Land of a Million Elephants’. Find peace on this serene trip as you float gently past traditional vistas of rustic villages and rural scenery. The calming ambience extends to an overnight stay in the old trading post of Pakbeng at a simple riverside lodge.

DAYS 3-5: LUANG PRABANG
Continue by boat along the peaceful Mekong stopping at a remote hilltribe village and a sacred cave to witness the hundreds of Buddha effigies placed within, then on to the jewel in Laos’ crown, Luang Prabang. Delve into the enchanting local culture as you roam the compelling Traditional Arts and Ethnology Center and enter ornate monasteries, where a chat with a local monk is enlightening. Enjoy a fun Lao cooking class nestled in a verdant garden held by Tamarind Restaurant, which is dedicated to preserving the unique aspects of delicious Lao cuisine. The incredible sight of local monks collecting alms at dawn is a breathtaking ancient ritual. Visit the stunning Kuang Si Falls and soak up the town’s relaxed atmosphere with a game of petanque.

DAYS 6-8: VIENTIANE
Fly to Vientiane, which retains an old-world charm that is becoming increasingly rare. Marvel at the golden spired Wat Pha That Luang, Wat Sisaket and the Patuxai Monument, Laos’ own Arc de Triomphe. At the interactive COPE center, reflect on the problems unexploded ordinances have caused in this peaceful land and what this fantastic organization is doing to help. After a traditional Baci ceremony in a local family home, your trip draws to a close and you may find yourself reminiscing about your journey with new friends. On your last day, enjoy free time until your departure transfer.
